—The Story Behind Mira Salon and Spa
Mira Salon and Spa was founded on the belief that beauty and wellness are deeply connected. What began as a single-practitioner space nearly two decades ago has grown into one of DeKalb’s most trusted day spa destinations—a place where modern technique meets mindful care.
Owner and founder Amanda began her journey in 2001 at Pivot Point Academy in Bloomingdale, Illinois. There, she developed the precision and artistry that still define her approach today. In 2003, Amanda opened Amanda’s Spa and Beauty Services, her first business devoted to helping clients feel confident, refreshed, and cared for.
While pursuing her passion for beauty, Amanda also studied at the Northern Prairie College of Therapeutic Massage, expanding her understanding of anatomy, movement, and the healing power of touch. This unique combination of cosmetology and therapeutic massage gave her a holistic perspective on how outer beauty and inner well-being support one another.
In 2007, she moved the business to South 4th Street in DeKalb, becoming an Aveda Concept Spa—a partnership that reflected her dedication to natural, environmentally conscious products and practices. Ten years later, in 2017, Amanda reimagined the brand as Mira Salon and Spa, relocating to the Hillcrest Drive location and expanding services to include advanced hair color, extensions, facials, and massage treatments.
The name Mira was chosen for its meaning: to look, to see, to reflect. It represents Amanda’s vision—to help every guest see their best self reflected back through care, confidence, and authenticity.
A Legacy of Education and Expertise
Education has always been at the heart of Mira Salon and Spa’s success. Amanda encourages every team member to pursue continuous training in the latest industry techniques, safety standards, and product innovations.
Stylists and estheticians regularly complete certifications in advanced color theory, extension application, and organic skincare methods. Massage therapists study new modalities and bodywork approaches to better serve the individual needs of each guest. This commitment to learning ensures that Mira’s guests receive the highest quality care, supported by modern knowledge and timeless professionalism.
The team’s collective expertise spans decades of combined experience, united by a shared belief that technical skill should always be paired with kindness and compassion.
